Dog-assisted therapies also play a role in eliminating all forms of De Cell Number discrimination and bullying in the school environment. From the Affinity Foundation , together with the inclusive school Lleó prevent bullying .
As Isabel Buil, director of the Affinity Foundation, states, “Respétame” honors the Affinity Foundation's annual cause #AnimalesQueCuran , to continue breaking barriers and betting on the school to contribute to creating spaces of greater respect, integration and collaboration to from the help of animals, which have the ability to provide numerous benefits for people .
How is “Respétame” carried out?
As just another subject during school hours, with the added value of working with animals. Fundamental factors that make it the most innovative. It is framed in a total of 12 weeks and is aimed at 40 3rd year ESO students -adolescents between 14 and 15 years old-. It materializes in a training course, which makes it possible to learn how to educate dogs, in which respect for others and for oneself, inclusion, teamwork, acceptance of differences, improvement of self-esteem, empathy is enhanced, it helps to redirect possible disruptive behaviors and tolerate frustration. Its delivery and monitoring are done through collaborative work between the educators and psychologists of the center and the therapy professionals of the Affinity Foundation. Finally, “Respétame” is evaluated following a scientific methodology under the supervision of the Affinity-UAB Animals and Health Foundation Chair, with a control group of 20 students who also work on respect in the classrooms, but without interacting with the dogs.
According to Maribel Vila , head of Therapies at the Affinity Foundation , young people enjoy the experience of learning through play and activities with animals in a more experiential way. The starting point of “Respétame” is found in the equality between all students before dogs, and this is how you can begin to work on all the aspects mentioned above. “Respétame” offers a space where importance is given to cooperation, to the complementarity that it offers us and that we offer to others when detecting their needs, and something very important, a very special bond is created with the animal .
